Ensuring that City Government Remains Open, Transparent, and Accountable to Residents
- Karen works hard to make sure citizens have a voice in their government. She held community meetings on issues like the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy, Wadsworth Subarea Plan and other issues important to residents.
- On many occasions, Karen has taken the concerns of individual residents directly to citizen council. One resident, worried about cars speeding on neighborhood streets, asked Karen if she could help. Karen arranged to have the resident’s concerns heard at a city council meeting. As a result, the city will start a neighborhood traffic management program in 2008.
- The decisions made by the planning commission are important to the future of our city. Karen successfully led efforts to televise planning commission hearings.
Zoning and planning are important community functions, but are not well understood my many community members. To increase citizen participation in planning, Karen spearheaded the creation of the successful Wheat Ridge 2020 Planning Academy. She has also written numerous informational articles on planning and natural resource issues.
