"Karen Berry has been an excellent councilperson for District 1.  She cares about the issues and people.  Karen has integrity, energy and enthusiasm to continue to move Wheat Ridge in a positive direction.  We are lucky to have someone with Karen's background and heart representing us in District 1.  The votes in our home go to Karen Berry for a second term."

Karen Berry understands the needs facing the residents of District I.

Karen BerryHello, I’m Karen Berry. I’m running for re-election to the Wheat Ridge City Council, representing District 1. I’m a life-long resident of District I, convinced my husband to move to Wheat Ridge, and raised two children here. I’m deeply committed to our city and to public service.

After attending local schools, I graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in engineering. In addition, I have extensive experience as a professional urban, regional, and natural resources planner.

As part of my job, with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, I work with cities and counties across the state on planning, development, and natural resource issues. I have served on numerous city boards, commissions, and committees; local and regional conservation groups; and regional councils of governments. I acutely know the issues facing cities like ours.

I ran for council four years ago with a clear agenda for investing in our neighborhoods and infrastructure, and carefully planning for the future. I have kept my commitments.

We have made remarkable progress in only four years, but there is still more we can and must do in the years to come. I am running for re-election to continue to make Wheat Ridge a more vibrant, attractive city, with great neighborhoods, great parks and trails, and safer streets. I would appreciate your vote this election.

When I think about Wheat Ridge, I think about the lakes, the incredible system of parks and open spaces, the variety of neighborhoods, our rich mix of old and new, the distinct histories and character of the community, and the surprising small-town life that joins them.

These are the qualities that draw businesses, keep current residents, and attract new residents. The decisions we make about our transportation systems, land use, and public infrastructure shape the places we live and our quality of life. They shape the character and health of our community and our region.

It is only enlightened self-interest to protect our great heritage. I hope to continue, as your city council representative, working to preserve the unique identity of Wheat Ridge, while offering all kinds of choices to all kinds of people.
